German language skills can make your professional and private life much easier, and enable you to more actively participate and enjoy the rich cultural life of the Freiburg - Southern Upper Rhine region.
There are many ways to learn the German language. The best solution is to begin learning German while still in your home country. Schools, universities, cultural centers, clubs, adult education centers, and commercial language schools offer German courses all across Germany. You can search for language courses and schools within the region here: Language School.
Special integration courses are offered for immigrants who plan on living in Germany permanently. These courses consist of language classes, a language test, and a class on history, politics, and society (orientation course), which also concludes with a test. Whether you are entitled or obligated to attend an integration course depends on your country of origin, your German knowledge, and the kind of residence permit you have, among other things. The exact conditions will be evaluated individually by the appropriate immigration authorities. These courses are funded by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. Under certain circumstances, you may be completely exempt from all course costs. You can find more detailed information here: Make it in Germany - Integration Courses.
